Managing Change

This course doesn't focus only on the physical process of transition. Instead it takes a more holistic approach to staying healthy through and beyond transition. It acknowledges that during transition social and personal relationship dynamics also change and that it can therefore be a very challenging time for the transsexual person and their friends and family. The course will help individuals address not just medical concerns, but also the social and emotional impact of transitioning.

The Managing Change course aims to offer very practical support and has been designed by psychologist Dr Dasha Grajfoner to give trans men and women the opportunity to set goals and take control of their lives as they go through gender transition, or look at moving on after completing transition.

The course was successfully piloted at the Centre in 2007. In the words of one of the participants:

"The course was a very positive experience. I gained greater self-acceptance and confidence. I was very confused about my life, but having the chance to really look at my life and future helped me realise I am transsexual and need to transition."

The Edinburgh LGBT Centre for Health and Wellbeing has a strong tradition of innovative work with trans people. The course is part of the Centre's Mind Matters programme of events promoting good mental wellbeing among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Dates:             Saturdays from 16th May -11th July (9 weeks)
Times:             2-4pm for trans women
                      5-7pm for trans men
