Celebrating 20 years of LGBT Health and Wellbeing
Did you know that LGBT Health and Wellbeing has been supporting our community for 20 years?
Our journey over two decades
Set up in 2003, we have spent the last two decades creating a diverse programme of support for LGBTQ+ adults in Scotland.
Early Days: We began at Howe Street, delivering social, mental health, and transition support.
Expansion: The launch of our LGBT Age project marked our growth into Glasgow and the West.
Recent Milestones: We established specialist counselling for trans and non-binary people, launched support for survivors of Conversion Practices, and introduced British Sign Language support on our helpline.
To highlight how we have adapted to our community’s needs, we compiled a timeline showcasing our history from 2003 to today.
Marking our anniversary
To celebrate, we hosted an event on 12th December at the Scottish Parliament, sponsored by Karen Adam MSP.
Who Attended: MSPs, funders, delivery partners, and community members joined us.
Acknowledgments: MSPs Karen Adam, Pam Duncan-Glancy, Maggie Chapman, and Minister for Equalities Emma Roddick gave heartfelt speeches. They emphasized our impact and the importance of intersectional equality.
Inspiring stories
Two community members shared their journeys:
Jacqueline: Spoke about her transition and the support from our Trans Support Project.
Talal: Shared his experience as an asylum seeker and how our Refugee Project helped him.
Since 2014, our Trans Support Projects in Glasgow and Edinburgh have empowered trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people. Since 2020, our Refugee Project has supported over 350 individuals to become thriving members of Scotland’s LGBTQ+ community.

A new era, a new logo
This milestone included unveiling our new logo, designed by Moira Daykin. Inspired by the Progressive Pride Flag, it celebrates diversity and intersectionality. Our CEO Mark stated, “The Trans Pride flag colours, pink and blue, intersect to complete the logo, just as they complete our community.”
Looking ahead
We thank Karen Adam MSP and everyone who joined us in celebrating 20 years of LGBT Health and Wellbeing. Here’s to many more years of progress toward a world where all LGBTQ+ people are equal and accepted.
