Volunteers Week: meet Kit

It’s Volunteers Week, and we’re excited to celebrate the amazing contributions of our volunteers to Scotland’s LGBTQ+ community. Meet Kit (he/him), a student of English Literature and Creative Writing at the Open University. As co-leader of Rainbow Dudes, Kit plans events that bring trans and queer men together to connect, socialise, and support each other.

My name is Kit (he/him)

I’m a student at the Open University in English Literature and Creative Writing. As you can probably tell from that, I love reading and writing! I also have two tortoiseshell cats that I would die for. I’m also an avid role-player.

Why are you volunteering for LGBT Health and Wellbeing?

I always want to help our community. I strongly believe in the mission of LGBT Health and Wellbeing.

Describe your volunteer role:

I’m a co-leader and plan and facilitate events for Rainbow Dudes. We have a different event every month so whatever you’re into, we’ll have something! This year we have had an art gallery visit, a cycle around Glasgow Green, a D&D session, and we have a few walks and trips coming up for the summer months.

What are you most proud of in your volunteer role and what do you hope to achieve in it?

I’m proud of being a trans man and a co-leader. It shows that trans people don’t have to just lead trans events. We’re a part of the larger community too. I hope to create a diverse group of dudes who can socialise, become friends, and support each other.

If you could change one thing for the LGBTQ+ community tomorrow, what would it be?

I’d get rid of the transphobia currently permeating our politics and media.

Do you have a role model or something that inspires you?

It’s less someone I look up to, and more that I try and be the person little egg Kit needed to see in the world. I want to be someone that would have inspired me.
